Seth Frankel - April 9, 1969 - May 21, 2010

The staff at KEET-TV expresses deep sadness at the loss of our beloved colleague and lifelong friend, Seth Frankel. For 10 years, Seth’s talent, heart, sense of humor, intellect and integrity made our office a better place to work and moved our station and our community forward. An informal memorial for Seth will be held on Friday, June 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at THE KEET-TV STUDIO at the top of Humboldt Hill Road. Please join us and bring stories about Seth and sign his memory book. For more information, contact Susan at 442-2013. As Director of Production at KEET-TV from 1996 to 2007, Seth calmly and creatively managed numerous diverse projects with l ittle lead-time and even less staff. Seth represented KEET with casual professionalism during the planning and production of programs such as the Humboldt County League of Women Voters Candidate Forums, HomeWork Hotline, LIVING BIOGRAPHIES, LIFE AFTER METH and TAKING CARE: Alzheimer’s On t he North Coast. In addition to his extensive video production skills, Seth had an innate respect and compassion for himself and others that made him a calm and effective manager, director, and co- worker. His positive attitude and sense of humor are surely key reasons why KEET retained such a sizable group of dedicated technical volunteers during his tenure in the production department. At times, Seth’s running commentary heard only on the crew’s headsets during live productions was more entertaining than what we were actually broadcasting. Seth participated in KEET’s community outreach as well. He mentored many Humboldt State University journalism students who have gone on to careers in TV, and co-taught a video production class at Zoe Barnum for two semesters during our methamphetamine prevention and awareness campaign. It was sad to see Seth leave KEET when he moved on to continue his television career in the Seattle area. But that sadness for us was accompanied by happy optimism for the future for Seth and his family. As we say goodbye to Seth now, there is only pain for his tragic passing. We can be lifted by the fact that we hold so much love in our hearts for Seth, Christina, Abigail and Maile, as they were our family for a quarter of the station’s history. And now, Seth, it is time to ramble on. A memorial fund has been established to honor the special place Seth holds in our hearts and on this earth. The Seth Frankel Memorial Fund will support Seth's two beloved daughters, Abigail and Maile. Abigail, 7, is in second grade, loves art and cooking, and is taking after her Dad as a budding young musician. Maile, 4, attends Montessori preschool, is very social, loves to dance and sing back-up for her sister, and always loved to show her Dad what she learned at school. Your contributions to the fund will support Abigail and Maile's education and personal growth activities, encouraging them to live life in the absolute fullest as Seth would dearly want. The fund also will also honor Seth's love for the great outdoors by purchasing and dedicating a bench in his memory in a beautiful outdoor park.
